Fresh Thoughts: How to Prepare for Florence


When I was searching for a topic for my photostory, I would be lying if I told you I had an easy time finding something to do it on. Then I remembered that Hurricane Florence was preparing to hit the East Coast, so I decided to do this assignment on how to prepare for Florence. For this blog post, I took a picture of my roommate Brad, standing next to an essential for preparing for any natural disaster: a case of water. I took this picture into Photoshop, and made the following edits using crop, hue and saturation, and brightness/contrast.

First Edit:


For my first round of edits, I cropped the original to focus more on Brad and the case of water. Then, I used the quick selection tool to select the water bottles in the case. After that, I added a hue and saturation adjustment layer to the selection, changing the color of the water to blue. 

Second Edit:


Prior to my second edit, I noticed that the light from the window was casting shadows on the wall behind Brad. After noticing this, I selected the wall and added a brightness/contrast layer. This not only darkened the wall, but also made the light coming from the window pop out.

Fresh Thoughts: Advanced Premiere For this blog, we were tasked with speeding up/slowing down certain parts of a video, as well as using keying and overlaying pngs to add animations with the use of keyframes. The video I chose to use was the bottle flip that we filmed in class.  The first thing I did was unlink the video and audio. I did this so I could eliminate specific parts of the audio, while keeping the full video. Next, I used the razor tool to isolate specific clips of peoples faces. With the use of the scale/position effects in the effect controls, I zoomed-in at specific points. For one zoom, I added a sleepy face emoji and faded it in with the opacity option, and added a "Bruh" sound effect and title. I used an opacity to quickly bring in the title. Swatches

Fresh Thoughts: Swatches and Nameplates Overview Throughout the swatch making process, I had a lot of fun playing with the colors, tints, and fonts for the nameplates. I've always been good at finding good combinations of colors, so I enjoyed making the swatches.  Inspiration The inspiration for my swatches came from my wall, which has the jerseys of a few of my favorite athletes: Todd Gurley, Sidney Crosby, Harry Kane, and Matt Stafford (I have a love/hate relationship with Stafford). Sports jerseys always have colors that pop and are easily noticeable.  Swatches My first set of swatches are based on the grey of my Stafford jersey. I took the original shade of grey, and made a 50% tint, to make a lighter grey. Finally, I made a 25% tint, to create a true light grey color.
